The band channels the disco flavor of Blondie and the delightful weirdness of Cyndi Lauper, with a unique sound all frontwoman Heloise Williams’ own. The band released its debut album Trash, Rats and Microphones in 2008, which received praise from critics and even featured the vocals of Blondie’s Deborah Harry on a few tracks. Harry is one of the band’s biggest supporters and named Heloise & The Savoir Faire her favorite underground NYC band.

Today’s episode featured a story about Captain & Tennille, and their wedding day, somewhere just north of Reno, in an old mining town. They had decided, at the last moment, to get married and so they traveled to Virginia City, Nevada, one night, in search of a wedding chapel. The only place they found was one that doubled as a saloon. The only person capable of marrying them was the bartender and the only available witnesses were two plastered dudes in the bar. It’s about the only thing I learned today, but it felt enough.

After a multiple-year hiatus, much-loved Brooklyn electro-pop band Heloise & the Savoir Faire is back with her new LP Diamond Dust, out on March 26th. We chatted with front woman Heloise Williams, who divides her time between Greenpoint and Vermont, about the new album, the plight of Williamsburg, and Beyoncé. We’re pretty pumped to debut the band’s video for their new single, “Time Lords,” posted above. We even have some great images of Heloise’s fabulous tour costumes made by Todd Thomas, who designs for Katy Perry and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Heloise & The Savoir Faire will release her long awaited sophomore LP Diamond Dust on March 26th, 2013 via Elijah Wood’s Simian Records. The album was conceived and largely recorded in her two homes in the Northeast – Vermont and NYC- and was produced by both Shy Child’s Pete Cafarella and duo “Bassy” Bob Brockman and Eric Gorman (Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, TLC).Diamond Dust marks a new direction for the solo artist featuring a more stripped down sound and live show, showcasing her powerhouse vocal styling’s and songwriting prowess. Heloise has created her very own brand of what she calls “heart-on-your-sleeve dance music.”

Diamond dust is a meteorological phenomenon, a cloud of tiny ice crystals caused when a cloud of fog freezes. The fact that Heloise and the Savoir Faire’s sophomore album is named for that very phenomenon is no coincidence – both are atmospheric events, but only one involves dance music inspired by the patterns of the human condition. The electro-pop pioneer, singer and performance artist has built a career out of mapping new sonic topography, pushing out through the territories of funk, dance-pop and R&B with her powerful pipes, as on 2008′s Trash, Rats and Microphones. That debut album received critical acclaim from the likes of Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, BUST, Blender, URB and more. Heloise performed on the UK’s Graham Norton show, and album track “Odyle” continues to be the theme song for Bravo’s “The Rachel Zoe Project.” Debbie Harry even leant her vocal talents on a track.

Diamond Dust represents all that same energy plumbing brand new emotional depths. Burnished by anxiety and gilded in certainty, Williams’ latest is the sum of lab experiments, self-imposed northern exiles and mythology. The album’s DNA owes as much to C.S. Lewis as it does Janet Jackson. Heloise released the first single from the album last November, called “Vibezz,” co-written/produced by Pete Carafella. PRESS HERE to watch the video for “Vibezz,” directed and edited by George Maracineanu, shot entirely on his Nokia Lumina 900 phone. PURCHASE “Vibezz” via iTunes. NYLON Magazine called it, “sleek, sparkly, and totally danceable.” Album opener, “Time Lords” could pass for the soundtrack to a fantasy genre film, seemingly coming to life from the speakers- striking and ethereal, while title track “Diamond Dust” slows down with a hard-hitting orchestral ballad. ”Oh Pioneer” is a delivered discourse on immigration and the origin of industry in this country, initially inspired by design titan Karl Lagerfeld, of all people. (“He sort of looks like a founding father,” offers Williams.)

Diamond Dust is ultimately a product of love and creative instinct. Heloise creates the musical children of her wild imagination and downright exceptional skill. The product is 100 % her own.
